Asparagus. Native to South Africa and valued mostly for handsome foliage of unusual texture. Some varieties have small and fragrant flowers and colorful berries. Stems and vines grow from 2 inches to 10 feet. All have various shades of green leaves and range from needlelike to long fluffy tufts.

Ornamental asparagus thrive in sun in cool summer climates, look the greenest in partial shade but will turn yellow in dense shade. Plant in well drained soil with peat moss or ground bark. Feed in Spring and regular water.
