Euphorbia Milii
Common Name:
Crown of Thorns Family: Euphorbiaceae
Zones: 21-24.
The Crown of Thorns is a fast growing, shrubby bush with climbing stems 3 – 4 feet long. It has tiny white, gold, red, rose or orange leaf bracts that open periodically on new growth all year long if it is kept moist and warm. Its leaves are roundish, thin and light green. They are usually only found near the branch ends. This plant can be trailed on a small frame or trellis against a sheltered wall or container.
The Crown of Thorns does extremely well in full sun or light shade, but must be kept warm, protected from low temperatures and frost. Be sure to grow in a porous soil and water regularly, keeping the soil moist.
The Crown of Thorns contains sharp spikes, which might cause injury. Use care when handling this plant. The milky-white sap produced by the Crown-of-Thorns is toxic and irritating to the skin. |
